Get a Load of This Bunch of Assholes

Community supports bigoted, hatemongering principal:

"David Davis is a fine man and good principal, and we are a gentle, peaceful, Christian, family-oriented community," said Bill Griffin, 73 and a lifelong Ponce de Leon resident who is no relation to the district superintendent. "We aren't out to tar and feather anyone."

Except of course when that is EXACTLY what's been done. Oh, and:

"He went so far as to lift the shirts of female students to insure the letters 'GP' or the words 'Gay Pride' were not written on their bodies."

so he told a lesbian high school student to stay away from kids but he can lift up those girls' shirts? At the very least, you got a sexual harassment charge.

I have to say, people in those small-towns will do anything they can to keep their rose-colored glasses on. When I worked at a place that handled claims made against state schools (injuries on the job, bus accidents, etc), I found a file on a teacher who had sexually abused a teenage girl.

In the file, there was a letter she wrote, telling him how angry she was that he got away with it and she had to change schools, etc etc. The community and school system supported him and let her, the victim, slide through the cracks. It made me angry and also glad that I didn't live in bumfuck, MD and that I had parents who could have afforded to hire me a goddamn lawyer and piss off the whole damn town. Stupid bullshit.

That is a heartbreaking story.

When I was a senior a new, likable government teacher arrived at school, and my co-editor on the yearbook, whose mother was a teacher, told me that this guy had been shuffled all over MCPS because of allegations that he'd had improper contact with students. Of course Pville got him because we're bumfuck, so who gives a shit. Sure enough a few of the tenth grade staffers told me later in the year that he'd do things like whisper to them, with his lips grazing their ears. Nothing over-the-top, but definitely creepy, to say the least. I heard he was gone within a year or two.
